The Domaine des Aspras winery is in the village of Correns, Provence. The total vineyard area is 25 hectares /61.8 acres. In the XIII century, the Benedictine monks of Montmajour had already acknowledged the unique wine-growing potential of the well-know whites in Provence.
The Estate: Domaine des Aspras was founded 50 years ago by the Latz family. The area has been known for wine since the 13th century, first cultivated by Benedictine monks, of course. The site is on a clay, limestone, rocky hillside, giving the winery its name; Aspras means rocky in Latin.
This typical Correns soil retains heat in the day, reflecting it onto the grapes at night for optimum ripeness and flavour development.
The Village: At the entrance to the Bargorese gorge to the right of the river Argens sits a steep limestone cliff on which the beautiful village of Correns overlooks its neighbours. The town of Correns is France’s one and only organic village.
